Inpatient Medical Measures

Inpatient Medical and Palliative Care Measures

Inpatient medical services include (but are not limited to):
  • IV fluid
  • selected IV antibiotics
  • oral and IV anticoagulation
  • wall suction for bowel obstruction
  • limited courses of TPN/PPN
  • tube feeding
  • advanced wound care (including use of wound VAC)
  • selected home medications (or valid substitutions)
  • routine blood and urine tests
  • urine culture
  • plain x-rays (E.g., chest x-ray, KUB)
  • EKG
  • pre-existing high flow oxygen
  • non-invasive and invasive ventilator support
  • CPAP/BiPAP
  • labs and x-rays (daytime hours seven days a week)
  • ultrasound guided/assisted procedures, including paracentesis, thoracentesis, and midline placement
  • urine culture
  • plain x-rays (E.g., chest x-ray, KUB)
  • EKG
  • pre-existing high flow oxygen
  • non-invasive and invasive ventilator support
  • CPAP/BiPAP
  • labs and x-rays (daytime hours seven days a week)
  • ultrasound guided/assisted procedures, including paracentesis, thoracentesis, and midline placement
Services not offered::
  • advanced imaging studies (E.g., CT scan, MRI).
  • advanced cardiac life support and intubation (“life support”). CPR is initiated and 911 is called for those patients with respiratory or cardiac arrest who wish these interventions.
  • CPAP/BiPAP and non-invasive/invasive ventilator settings are not adjusted at the Branford facility, and 911 is called for those patients in need of and wanting adjustment of these devices.

Comfort-oriented measures are available to all patients using assisted ventilation who wish to change their goals of care and resuscitation status, and aggressive symptom management is offered to all patients.

Hospice enrollment is available to all eligible patients.

All patients are provided palliative care consultation, including expert-level counseling on disease trajectory, treatment options, goals of care, and advance directives.
