Inpatient Palliative Care

Patient in hospital bed at The Connecticut Hospice Licensed Inpatient Hospital

Licensed Palliative Care Hospital

Sometimes serious, life-threatening illnesses and their treatments generate pain and side effects that cannot be safely and adequately managed in a patient’s home or other settings.

Connecticut Hospice is uniquely equipped to provide prompt and effective palliative care because, unlike any other hospice provider in Connecticut, we can immediately transition patients in crisis to our own licensed hospital.

Comfort-Oriented Measures

We provide an expert level of pain and symptom management, and offer an extensive array of symptom management and comfort-oriented measures to patients admitted for medical and palliative care.

We attend to the quality of life interventions that people find important when they are very sick: we don’t wake people up, we turn the lights out at night, we let their families visit 24/7, in addition to offering rational, reasonable medical intervention.

Medicare Hospice Care Coverage Includes:
  • All patients are provided palliative care consultation, including expert-level counseling on disease trajectory, treatment options, goals of care, and advance directives;
  • We can accept people on ventilators, or CPAP/BiPAP;
  • Patients who come to Connecticut Hospice for Inpatient Palliative care are not required to have a Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) order;
  • Our unique 52-bed licensed palliative and hospice care hospital allows us to provide nuanced control of pain and quality of life rarely achieved in other health care settings;
  • Hospice enrollment is available to all eligible patients.
