Registered Nurses

The Connecticut Hospice, Inc., is seeking experienced registered nurses to work full-time, part-time or per diem in either our Inpatient (52-bed) hospital or as Admission Nurses in Home Care.
Weekend and night shift availability highly desirable.
Qualifications:

  • Current CT RN license;
  • graduated from an accredited nursing program, BSN preferred;
  • a minimum of two years relevant experience, preferably in acute care, hospice or homecare.
  • Homecare nurses must be willing to travel.

Director of Nursing , Inpatient Department

The Connecticut Hospice, Inc. is recruiting for a full-time Director of Nursing for the 52-bed Inpatient Department.

Under the direction of the Senior Vice President (SVP) of Clinical Services, the Director of Inpatient Nursing is responsible for the management of inpatient clinical areas; supervises Nursing Service functions, operations, and clinical activities. Is responsible for the quality of patient care and ensures that sufficient and properly prepared personnel carry out the functions of Nursing Service. Is knowledgeable of social, economic, and legal issues affecting the health care system. Develops, directs, implements, and ensures compliance of the Standards of Nursing Practice, Public Health Standards, and The Joint Commission (TJC) Standards.

  • Supervises: Clinical Coordinators, inpatient clerical and nursing staff
  • Coordinates the daily operational functions of the Inpatient Department of Nursing
  • Supervises all staffing and scheduling activities, based on patient acuity, to ensure cost effective staffing and continuous and timely availability of nursing services
  • Responsible for hiring, mentoring, evaluating all nursing staff
  • Measures, assesses, and improves patient outcomes through developing and implementing in nursing standards of practice to ensure that patient care is safe, efficient, and therapeutic
  • Develops, presents, and manages the nursing services’ portion of the organizational budget to the SVP of Clinical Services
  • Takes responsibility for own personal development; assesses own learning needs; maintains currency in aspects of nursing care
  • Participates in the review, revision and implementation of departmental policy and procedure development
  • Implement the findings and current research from nursing and other literature
  • Coordinates the Nursing Department Quality Improvement program, assigning responsibility to individual or groups of nursing staff members to take action to improve the nursing service’s performance
  • Acts as liaison for the Nursing Department; coordinates nursing’s role and its relationship to other departments in Hospice, as well as the medical staff
  • Collaborates with educators for education planning to promote the growth and development of staff members as well as quality patient care through in-service programs, seminars, workshop, and other continuing education programs
  • Represents the Nursing Department on specific committees; serves on other committees as assigned by the SVP of Clinical Services

Classification:   Exempt

Schedule:            Day Shift, Monday – Friday, and other times as needed

Qualifications:

  • Current RN licensure in the State of Connecticut
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, BSN required
  • At least five years’ clinical experience; Hospice and Palliative Home Care nursing experience preferred
  • At least three years Head Nurse and/or supervisory experience
  • Written documentation of attendance at continuing education programs
  • Effective communication, organizational and leadership skills required
