Hospice Birds

Branford, CT:
Once again, The Connecticut Hospice, has something unique to report on. Up on their roof at Homeport Cove seagulls have made it their home. Two seagull eggs have hatched and there are two seagulls climbing out of the nest and beginning to explore their outer world. Mom guards them closely and periodically is seen bringing them over to the shade of the roof fan.

It is exciting news, and it is a very unusual happenstance. It is a rarity for seagulls to choose a roof to build their nest on as they prefer rocks and crevices. The fact that this has happened two years in a row makes it almost mystical. Maybe, as was said two years ago, it is because, “the scenery is therapeutic.” Their exploits are being caught on film to be shared with the patients and families as well as the community. The Dept. of Environmental Services takes great pride in having a place
where these Homeport babies could get a great beginning. It is very symbolic that they would pick the 1st hospice in America, says Gary Sullivan, Vice-President of Environmental Services.

Hospice is a state-of-the-art palliative hospital hospice. “Because Love Matters” is what Hospice is all about. Hospice is about life and living each day to the fullest just as our newborns are finding that out. Since they have deemed our roof to be a good home, how fitting that we adopt them. Home is important to them just as many of our patients find home comforting for them as well.

There is a contest to name the birds. Enter the name for each bird. Since the seagulls won’t wait, please enter the names promptly so we can share this story with everyone. There will be a surprise award for the names chosen.
